I absolutely love to decorate the house by season. The change in color palette, décor items, and household scents are really what make it homey for me. This year, for the winter/Christmas season, I wanted to add a truly custom, personal touch to our mantel.
If you’ve been following along, you know how much I love finding that perfect balance between cozy tradition and chic décor. To bring our holiday setup to the next level, James and I decided to get a little tech-crafty this year. Instead of standard store-bought tags, we created custom 3D printed script name tags for the entire family, including our beloved fur babies, Hera and Harrison!
Here is a quick look at how we brought these gorgeous, custom script names to life and how you can recreate the look for your own holiday setup.
Those of you who know me know that I love a good crafty, DIY, and budget friendly moment! Lucky for me, I just so happened to marry a man with a 3D printer that may or may not slowly be becoming mine ... the move into my office is purely coincidence. Using Canva and the 3D printer allowed for:
- Endless Font Options: Unlike store-bought tags where you’re stuck with standard block lettering, 3D printing lets you choose elegant, flowing script fonts that match your exact décor aesthetic.
- Lightweight & Durable Pieces: These script names are incredibly lightweight, meaning they won’t weigh down the stocking loops or pull at your garland.
- The Perfect Gold Finish: While you can print in any color, a quick touch of metallic paint gives them a stunning, high-end look that catches the Christmas lights beautifully.
Since I've previously made drink markers for our glasses with the 3D printer, the process was pretty quick! I opted for Halimum as the font choice, then attached a circle outline to the side of each name before converting the PNG files into STL files for the printer.
There is something so fun about using modern technology to create a warm, traditional holiday look. To make these, we actually printed the names using black PLA filament. While the raw black plastic looks neat, it didn't quite have that festive warmth I was dreaming of. To transform them, we coated them in a stunning metallic paint. The result? A chic, high-end metal-looking finish that perfectly tied in with the rest of our pre-existing holiday décor!
To keep the look classic yet cozy, we paired our personalized tags with a lush, pine cone and copper berry accented evergreen garland draped beautifully over the mantel. I used some leftover neutral toned chiffon ribbon to hang each of the names from the cast iron stocking holders.
The gold script names add just the right amount of festive elegance against the buns's red-and-black buffalo plaid, and our white and beige fur cuffs. To tie it all together, we used a bit of rustic twine to hang a pair of vintage-style brass bells underneath the stockings and across the fireplace itself. It added just the right about of texture and a beautiful, traditional holiday chime.
Want to Make Your Own?
If you or someone in your family has a 3D printer, this is an incredibly fast and rewarding holiday project. You just need a classic script font converted to an STL file, a spool of filament, and your favorite metallic spray paint or acrylic overlay.
I am absolutely in love with how these turned out, and I think Hera and Harrison approve of their official spots on the mantel, too! What do you think? Do you personalize your pets' stockings for the holidays? Let me know in the comments below!
