New Year, NEW JOB!

Ok, so it's not really a new job so much as it is a new position. It's been a looooooong time since I posted (and I've had a rough week), I think I'm due for a little blog therapy! The week before in service started back up, I was moved from Kinder to a new position that had just been created. Admin calls it fine arts and enrichment, I call it SSTEAM. I teach Social Studies, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music the Pre-K through 2nd Grade all week. Although I only see Pre-K twice a week, I have my hands full! I was excited about this position when I agreed, but I am becoming more and more overwhelmed each week.

Next week, I start my first six weeks of after school enrichment programs with 1st and 2nd Grade. THANKFULLY, the TA that I got to help pick is AMAZING and so willing to learn how to play chess (the first set of enrichment) to help me out.

It's been a tough start to the school year with people (not administration) trying to dictate what I should and shouldn't be teaching, not getting the support I need in various areas, and having to create a lot from scratch! I have really got to stop saying I can do more than I am physically able and coming up with ideas that I don't have time to implement.

After one of the roughest days I've had this year, hopefully this means I have nowhere to go but up! I have to keep telling myself that parents aren't complaining, the kids whine when they find out they have to leave or don't get to see me, and I can tell they are definitely learning. Here's to hoping our school motto for this year will apply to more than just the student-teacher relationship.

The kids traced and decorated these hands in my class the first week of school! They were pretty awesome!

Now that I'm done venting, I hope everyone is having a great start to their year! Hopefully I will have some more non-vent time to blog and upload pictures. Until then, HAPPY TEACHING!
